How to Create Your Wedding Budget

A jar of money, saved by a couple after reading my top tips on how to create your wedding budget

It’s no secret that weddings in 2020 can be expensive, and that’s why I’ve decided to put together my top tips on how to create your wedding budget. I know this step in the planning process may not be as fun as pinning pretty photos on Pinterest, but it really is the most crucial part of the planning process. Setting a budget for your wedding in the beginning of the planning process will allow you to be sure that you have a great wedding, but don’t break the bank in the process.

Having an intimate wedding with a conservative budget doesn’t diminish the love you and your future spouse have for one another! So set a budget that you feel comfortable with, and work your wedding format around what you can spend.

Many brides are surprised at what certain things cost, because this is their first time ever planning a wedding. It’s important to do your homework as well while you create your wedding budget.

Look up industry standard prices for each type of vendor in your region. For instance, you should research topics such as what it would typically cost to feed 100 wedding guests with a buffet set up. This will allow you to allot your money wisely, and make sure you are prepared for the costs you can expect when you hire licensed, insured wedding professionals.

PRO TIP: The guest count and the wedding budget are directly linked! The more guests you have, the more tables, chairs, place settings, food, cake, invitations, etc. you’ll need! Keep this in mind if you are trying to keep the cost down for your big day.

A great tip when creating your wedding budget is to first establish what the three most important things are to you on your wedding day. You may say that entertainment, photography, and florals are most important to you. From there, you should research what it would cost to hire the best vendors in those categories and begin building your budget from there.

Once you’ve established these crucial aspects of the wedding budget, you can move on to allocating your funds to other portions of the wedding.

Before you know it, you’ll have your budget all set! Then comes the fun part, because you are now ready to start meeting with and booking your vendors!
